Center Outcomes
During the first few days of each child’s day treatment admission,
the team meets with each child’s parents to discuss the goals of
the admission. These goals are determined by what the child’s oral-motor
skills are at the beginning of the admission, the child’s medical
and feeding histories, and what children with similar feeding difficulties
accomplished during a 4- to 5-week period.
The goals commonly made during the admission relate to:
- The amount of food the child will consume during a meal.
- The texture of food the child will consume per meal given their oral-motor
skills.
- The variety of foods the child consumes.
- The level of undesirable behaviors the child engages in each meal.
- Making sure all of the adults feeding the child at home and/or school
are trained and comfortable implementing the various procedures.
Other goals include cup drinking, self-feeding, and bottle or tube-feeding
reductions. Parents are encouraged to ask questions during and throughout
the admission regarding their child’s progress.
The staff at the Center is also interested in obtaining input from the
parents regarding their child’s admission.
- At the end of admission the child’s family is provided with
a Satisfaction Questionnaire and encouraged to complete it.
- There are 17 items on the questionnaire pertaining to the admission,
the staff, and their child’s outcomes.
- Parents are asked to record their opinions based on a 5-point scale,
ranging from 1 (dissatisfied) to 5 (very satisfied).
- Overall, parents were very satisfied with their child’s admission,
the staff and the outcomes.
- An average rating of 4.6 out of 5.0 was obtained.
